Lets hear something about the domain aftermarkets and the experience that you had when dealing with them.

For me, It has been TDNAM and Namewinner

I wasn't interested much in aftermarkets when I started out. But there was a promo about signing up at TDNAM and getting a domain for $1.99 with it.

So it was all the same for me and the membership was almost free of cost.

Grabbed 2 domains from there on which no one was bidding and got some profits. This started me out and then I registered at Pool and Namewinner. But I just make rounds to look for a lucky hit on some domains now and then.

I am most satisfied with the TDNAM. What about you?

Used it once and then forgot about it as I lost and was outbidded ridiculously. From that day onwards I just keep away from the aftermarkets and pay attention to the SEO market.

anything i have used that is related to godaddy (tdnam) has sucked.
every godaddy site and venture get stacked on top of the same shopping cart and registration system, thus bogs down and seems to corrupt itself.... but like windows computers!@!!!!

the major domain forums run actions, but those forums are so full of crap scammers, etc... and the fourms rarely try to do anything bout it. so nto really worth bothering with.

pool and snap... well they are just outright rediculous. over priced, dubious, takes forever to get a name from them.

I just don't know of any place that i could say... operates safely, fairly priced and has rule/guidelines that are reasonable for them, the seller and the buyer.

Sorry, what does aftermarket refer to? Is it the inquiries surrounding a domain after its expiration, or...?

The aftermarkets are the places where people are given a chance to bid on domain names that are expiring in upcoming days. So they get a better chance to grab it before it is realeased in the pool of the expired and available again domain names.

Oh, so it's like waiting in the lobby for a few domains to expire so that you can be one of the first to grab 'em. Right.

I could see this becoming a fine thing to do at certain times of the year, but I wouldn't depend on it for all of my income or anything like that. It just sounds like a bonus if you get lucky and get a good one - after all, you're competing with a lot of people to get some of the expiring domains, right?

Yes there are lots and lots of people looking for some nice domain name to fall on the ground so that they can pick it up. In the process they are sometimes even over bidding on the domains. [Ego also plays an important role]

Many times the people who don't have muhc deeper pockets are the one who lose the auction and the time spent for watching and bidding on that domain name is totally wasted.

So who does the money actually go to? Does the website that everyone is going to register the domain names immediately after expiration and allow others to bid on them?

In most of the cases the Domain registrar and the Aftermarket are tied up. So they might be splitting the profits as aftermarket side gets the profits for nothing as they only host the auctions. Plus the domain registrar get the extra income from the domain name that are anyway going to expire.

Nick, if you won the auction from the aftermarket,your gonna pay the the winning bid amount right? How about the transfer of domain?From the market to your name,was that an additional cost?
