How to transfer domain

i have registered a domain name from one hosting company which gave me a free domain name with their hosting plans.

now i want to transfer the domain name to another registrar as i am not going to use that web hosting provider in future.

so how can i transfer my domain name from that company to the new registrar?

will my site be offline for somedays if i start the domain transferring process?

give me some tips as i have never transferred a domain name in my life.

RE: How to transfer domain

Go to your new registar and initiate the transfer. There is usually a small feee or forced renewal when doing this.

You will then get a email sent to the administrator contact of the domain.

Make sure the domain is unlocked and follow the instructions in the email.

Remember some registars won't allow a transfer if the whois info has been changed within the last 60 days.

Unlocked :(

The domain name is showing Registrar lock status in the whois information when I checked the whois of that domain name of mine.
