RE: NameSlot.com server downtime

Yesterday got a phone call from one of our moderators here that the forum is down :(

I was sleeping and had to run to my PC. Saw the things and also saw the new cpanel.

I heard that this is due to the cpanel updates. Plus our forum is online now so we are all good again

RE: NameSlot.com server downtime

Yeppers, cPanel guilty:grinning-wink:Too keep up with what crackers have (they always get the newest versions, so know what security has or has not been fixed), I keep most servers auto-updated that use cPanel. Keep ahead of them when I can, or atleast up with them at all times:mischievous:cPanel's latest build broke SSL and a few kernals in Linux, so fixing them one by one. Luckily, cPanel has been real personally helpfull to us in atleast changing what they have too from their end (alot of cPanel itelf is encoded, and even I don't care to take forever to try decoding it:gasp: ). But, other than my own site (the hosting domain, which uses things other accounts don't, so it still down/broken:embarrassed: ), all is good so far. Once again, so SORRY for the downtime. Glad you all going posting crazy again:grin:

RE: NameSlot.com server downtime

There are some services that can notify you if your forum (or site) goes down. I have used a couple of free ones for clients.

I'm trying to set up a Linux server so that I can run NAGIOS which allows you to have your own monitoring system for unlimited services on unlimited servers. It's extendable, so you can program special things if you want to, like let you know when the temperature gets too high in the server room... things like that. You could easily get it to give you a phone call also. :-)

Thanks for the advice:wink:Use simular network services so aware what network is up to. Problem was that solving what OS update screwed-up was a several-hour no-thrills task:angry: But, as stated, all is good now, including our own site and backend to all servers:grin:

Amendum: NAGIOS appears to be worth looking into. Thanks for sharing the link:exclamation:
