US based affiliate programs and W8-BEN
Has anyone filled out one of these W8 forms before?
Under the "Special Rates and conditions", does anyone know if the UK has a special tax agreement with the US?
Are you supposed to tick this box?:
The beneficial owner is related to the person obligated to pay the income within the meaning of section 267(b) or 707(b), and will file
Form 8833 if the amount subject to withholding received during a calendar year exceeds, in the aggregate, $500,000.
I have provided or will provide a statement that identifies those notional principal contracts from which the income is not effectively
connected with the conduct of a trade or business in the United States. I agree to update this statement as required.
Er, what is a notional principal contract?
Any help appreciated!

RE: US based affiliate programs and W8-BEN
I haven't saw this one specifically. Well it can be said that I haven't seen any, as I never read it and just tick this and that. It was in past when I used to join affiliate programs. Thanks God I haven't ticked anything wrong and the accounts are still unused as I have left affiliate marketing after being bullied for many months.

RE: US based affiliate programs and W8-BEN
RCRiver,
The W-8BEN tax form is used by the United States taxation system by citizens of other countries to certify that you are a citizen of another country.
You may want to send a query to the affiliate program and allow them to disclose to you what the appropriate choice would be. Sometimes, you might not have to check the box because it is irrelevant to the information needed by the company, and, consequently, the United States taxation system. If you cannot figure out what to do, you should consult an accountant of some kind, I think - you want to make sure that your form is correct, so there is little or no trouble down the line!

RE: US based affiliate programs and W8-BEN
Here is what I do when I am feeling as if I know the webmastering things but the taxation and legalities are out of the scope.
Print that page out and just put it beside your PC when you are going out visit some accountant or a lawyer and show him that page. It will be a good move to take some professional advice from them. Even if it is chargeable.
When lawyers and accountants want websites they do come to us  So why not to go to them and get this kind of stuff looked upon.

I agree with Nameslot.
If you are unsure about taxation forms or accounting forms, you should get them looked at by a lawyer or an accountant. If you explain your situation, you may be able to get off with a very light fee or no fee at all!
It might be kind of unfortunate to have to pay a little bit of money to have the document looked at, but it is much better to be safe than sorry when it comes to these kinds of things. I would say that some research about the document itself or a consultation about the document itself is in order. Don't take chances with tax forms! They can take a lot more than your time!
