RE: .jp .de  domains have any value ?

.de I can say is a very good and powerful TLD. It has right now the 2nd most registered domain name after .com

Commonly .net used to counted as the 2nd. But the stats show that 5,459,604 domains are registered in .de

.jp stands at 306 at the moment. I would like to mention that .co.jp stands at 21st number in the rankings.

If you have a choice then investing in .de would be more profitable. But sometimes keywords and marketability plays an important role so this cannot be said that in which one you should invest when this 2 are compared.

Lets say some product or a service has a good market in Japan and that domain name is available so it is in .de extension also. Based on the market research you can invest in .jp tld in this above case rather then .de although its registration numbers are high enough.

If we talk about your suggesting of LLL domains then .de would be the best choice. Can't believe that there are still 3 letter .de's available. Would have to check them out

I think that the .co.jp and .jp domain extensions would be useful if you are reasonably good at Japanese.  You could find potential buyers like that.

English is very fashionable as of late in the Japanese culture, I've heard - it might be to the point where certain English words can be marketable brand names.

I have been to Japan twice (My wife is Japanese) and I can attest that English words are seen everywhere, although not allways in proper usage. If you have some lines on popular English words in Japanese culture, it would interesting to see how well they work.

RE: .jp .de  domains have any value ?

I have been to Japan, too.

A lot of the English words there are used interchangably with Japanese, like, for example, in Japanese television it is common to see a character say something like, "Lucky!" I think that it would be very difficult to break into this market without understanding of the language or culture, and I would not recommend buying or selling .jp or .co.jp domains based off of English words unless you see them in a Japanese television program with a strong following and you know that it will generate a profit. Otherwise, there are too many variables to consider and you may end up wasting time and money.
