This is a natural link building strategy that incorporates social bookmarking, directories, niche blogs, classified ads (pretty much everything under the sun). I wonder how long it will be before the algorithms sees this as a fancy link farm though?

Everything I read tells me to avoid article writing, but I am unconvinced. I think you can still get some great links with the proper article writing strategy. That being said, try to avoid submitting to too many sites. I think ezine is the best (in my humble opinion).

If you are still relying on paid links in order to boost your rankings, you are in for a rude surprise as Google has really kicked up enforcement on this issue. Their algorithm has greatly improved in the detection of suspicious links recently, and I suspect this will only continue.

Google has now started sending duplicate content warnings. This is important to pay attention to because I you are scraping content from another site, Google will find out and only index the original url.

People are split on whether or not to use link bait. Yes, link bait can be highly successful if you put in the requisite work, and you can get higher rankings as a result. The information has to be well researched and unique.

This is very similar to Facebook like button, and is becoming ubiquitous on the web. It also has its own version of facepile that shows picture of people following.
