Atal Pension Yojana is a pension scheme under the Indian government. The scheme aims to provide pension to all who have worked in India and abroad. The scheme was launched in 2006 with a goal of providing pensions to all those who have worked in India and abroad. The Atal Pension Yojana (APY) was launched by the Government of India on 1 April 2006, with the aim of providing pensions to all Indians who had worked outside India or had retired abroad. A total of 15 million people were covered by the APY at its launch, which grew to over 25 million people by December 2014. The Atal Pension Yojana is funded through contributions from Indian citizens and foreign citizens living in India and from companies that have operations in India or invest directly into their equity shares at least 10% of their total equity capital. The amount contributed is initially Rs 1 lakh per annum per person, but it can be increased as per need.
