After seeing the domain market finally take a bit of a breather in August, we thought this past week (that included the big Labor Day holiday weekend in the U.S.) might be the slowest of the year. It didn't turn out that way though. While there weren't any six-figure sales reported this time out, there were 18 five-figure deals, the most we have seen in a single week all summer.
That fleet of solid sales was led by the biggest .org sale of 2006, Boats.org, a domain that sailed to a $50,249 payday at SnapNames.com. Two other .orgs also made the new Big Board, as did a .info. .Com controlled the rest of the action, taking 16 of 20 positions overall.
SnapNames also accounted for the #2 domain, EventPlanners.com at $43,750, and the popular auction site led all venues with 7 entries on the Top 20. Sedo.com and Moniker.com/DomainSystems.com were close behind with 5 each. Moniker's haul included #3 SparkEnergy.com at $30,420 while Sedo's hit list featured #4 ChicasCalientes.com ("hot girls" in Spanish) at $28,000.
Afternic.com was the only other venue with multiple entries, placing two on the leader board, including #10 KnowTheScore.com, a domain sold for $12,000 by LocalWebsites.co.uk. The .info domain that made the elite all-extension list was Detroit.info. That domain changed hands for $10,000 at DNForum.com with Sai Pola of WebsiteGuru.com selling to Ravi Karnam.
