What happens when a domain name is registered for 1 year.
- Domain is registered and its status is active.
- Within 60 days. It is still active but can now be transferred to another registrar.
- 90 days before the expiration date. Status is active but You receive notices for the renewals of that domain name.
- After 1 year. Status is Registrar Hold. The domain becomes inactive but is on hold for some days so that you can renew it.
- Redemption period after 30 or 40 days. Can renew it but costs will be higher at this time.
- Status is Pending Delete after 30 days more. It can only be purchased after it is dropped.
- In 5 days it is dropped. Can now be registered by anyone at registration costs.
The above cycle is not always accurate in all cases. It might depend on the extension of the domain name and the domain name registrar itself.
Now what happens is that many domain name owners forget to renew their domains from time to time or are not interested in owning that domain name anymore.
When the domain name goes in the Pending Delete status it becomes available at the auctions held at the after markets.
As I mentioned it before the good ones are:
http://www.tdnam.com
http://www.snapnames.com
On tdnam there is a membership fees after which it is paid you are allowed to place a bid on the domain names you are interested in.
On pool.com they don’t charge you first but takes the initial amount and places it as reserved if you win a bid on some domain name you might be interested in.
If more then one person is interested in a particular domain name then the bidding process goes on till the highest bidder is chosen at the end of the auction time.
