My goal is to get at least 1000 pages to show on the site: command in Google, as in site:jm-seo.org. Now that is not technically necessary; you can do OK with a smaller number of pages, but I think it is good to realize that BIGGER websites do BETTER on Google for two reasons.
First, more pages means more opportunities to show up on narrow long tail searches. It takes many long tails to add up to significant traffic, but many many searches are two and three word searches... So the more pages you create the more opportunities you have to focus EXACTLY on what they are searching for. Secondly, BIGGER websites by definition have BIGGER PageRank and Google takes them more seriously. So bigger is better in a total sense; it helps ALL pages.
