Google Crawling

Hi there.
I've just read the sticky on Google Crawling but it did not really answer my question. I made some changes to my tags four days ago but I have not been crawled yet. I went into Webmaster Tools as set my crawl rate to the maximum setting just now. I've been in the process of link building by signing up for directories. Other than that is there anything that I can do as far as getting Google to crawl my site more often?
