Link between site maps and the search engines

Of late, discussions are doing the rounds about the linkage between Yahoo and site maps based on XML. It seems that the linkage is there and people are able to see into the connection which is there. Perhaps, the whole issue of linkage is relevant to the scheme of optimization. It seems that connection can also be expected between the site maps and the search engine of Google. But one expects them to be different from the scheme of things in Yahoo. What are your views about the whole scheme? That’s because I am willing to depend on your help.
