Domains are becoming more popular these days, almost everyone has registered their name, Business or hobby domains online, Millions of domains are registered daily and millions expire. Most of the users nowadays trust full URL domain name websites, Geocities, Tripod and Lycos websites have fallen to the ground with long and ugly urls. This Guide will teach you everything you need to know to register your favorite Domain

Choosing a Domain Name

Choosing a good domain name is very important, usually the ones with the most searched keywords in it. Search engine's first priority is the domain name with the keywords the users is looking for, for example if you search for 'Good Tutorial', the first result you get is from http://www.good-tutorials.com. This is because your keywords match the domains. If you are looking for a very specific target then you have to choose a domain which will be related to your target keywords.

Make sure to limit your keywords to maximum 3 words or a few letters, its good to have shorter and more meaningful domain name, as your users will be reading your domain name before clicking on your site.

Most of the time its hard to find the names you want, but a little different but related domains are also acceptable like: WebDesignsource.com instead of WebDesignresources.com. You should always remember there are many extensions for domains like: .Com, .Net, .Org, etc and there are more extensions being released time to time. Search engines do know about the different extensions of domains and will give the highest priority to the domain with the highest PageRank

Choosing a Domain Service

There are many Domain registration companies which are affiliated directly or indirectly to the NIC (The Internet's Information Center ) and can register domain names for you for as long as you want. But before choosing a Domain Service, make sure the price you're paying is legitimate because the companies pay a fixed price for NIC and the rest of your money is theirs. Companies like: Namecheap and Godaddy or Yahoo Domains have a very decent price but you can also see some ridiculous prices like: $50/Yr, now that's a rip off. You also have to be careful the Domain Service has good security and your information will be kept safe. Domain Stealing has become a habit for hackers, If you choose a weak service and a easy password your account can be hacked easily and your domain can be stolen from you.

When you choose a Domain Service, make sure you can use the method of payment for that service. Most of the Domain services accept Paypal, credit cards, checks, money orders and even cash. If you require more payment method, do a search in Google

Registering the Domain

Registering the domains is the last step for you to do before the domain is registered by your name. The Domains Registration process will ask you for personal which should be 100% correct. Providing the right Information for your Domain is necessary because if any legal action is taken against you or somebody steals your domain, Your Identity could get the domain back for you. Sometimes Visitors like to write to the webmasters by letter mail which in this case would mean a correct address for you to receive the letter. Include a correct Business or non-primary phone number for the phone section; this is because most of the users contacting you by phone are contacting you for Business purposes. And Remember, Never provide your cell phone or personal numbers or you might be bombed by unnecessary phones.

The next step will be asking you for the Term you want to register your domain for, 2-5 years is recommended if you can afford it but 1-2 years is not bad either, you will be notified by email a few months before your domains expire. Domains are your property, you can Buy, Sell, Trade Domains without any problems.
