Yes I do use this when the domain name is an expired one. That is why we are always telling people who want an appraisal to mention some details about the domain name so the person who is trying to appraise the domain name has more info on it. And can base his research on the given facts.

As the appraisals here are free we cannot assume others to make our research and spend their time digging the info which the owner already has but was not caring to mention it in the thread itself. So this leads to inaccurate appraisals. With posts like $xx and $xxx and all the blah blah which is not relevant to the given domain name.

Another good way could also be to check if the person has already made a site on it or not. Sometimes the domain name itself doesn't has any value but the developed site based on its PR and Backlinks along with its Traffic stats and revenue if provided can really help to come closer towards an accurate and to the point appraisal of the given domain name.
