How to maintain your rank in Google

I am in the process of redesigning my website, which has won a top Google ranking for the keywords that already have it. However, it has been my interest, and it does not seem right to me, has just link it back to 7, the title is that it is only to make mention of the keyword. In addition, the content is very sparse. My concern is the method I use, is that it could lead to the loss of my position in page rank from Google. Check your site yourself; can help me let me know what's going on? Maintain the rank in Google is not an easy thing in such a huge competition, it needs continuous efforts like:
- Optimize and update the content of the site.
- Do quality submission on niche sites.
- Do Social media Optimization for organic and instant traffic.

Any delay or break in the efforts may drop the position because the competition is too high.
