Backlinks not linking?

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to figure out why my site has not ranking in google despite my SEO efforts. Upon investigation it seems that none of the backlinks I have created are working. When running my site through backlinkwatch it appears that there are no backlinks linking to my site. What could be the cause of this? I have posted articles to article directories, web 2.0 sites and blogs (and am continuing to do so). Thanks in advance for any help!
