Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone is using Classified Ads to promote their sites or products? My partner and I have 11 classifed ad sites that we run and we just decided to add one for Webmaster Classifieds (www.Webmaster-Classifieds.com). Our other site are about cars, medical equipment, photography, toys, auto repair, etc. so each has a topic and not just a general classifieds site.

Anyway, in looking to see what sites were out there I found one that is on the same topic as ours will be: http://www.wmfieds.com. It's a nice site and basic ads are free, but you don't seem to be able to add live links to the ads, at least I could not seem to do so. On our site you will be able to do that.

So does any one bother with them?

Also, would there be any interest in the list of classified ad sites that I have? It's not just our sites but a lot of other ones like http://www.usfreeads.com/ which is one of my favorites

I have not been using classifieds to promote the websites as most of them were not allowing us to put a link back to the site.

Moreover if some allows a backlink then they are links with no-follow attribute.

Will try and post some classifieds and see how it turns out to be.

And if you are starting a classified site then please allow webmasters to have a link from it. It will attract more webmasters and you will get much more listings.

Yeah the SPAM headache will be there. But it can be sorted out with help of some people like we are dealing with here on the forums itself.

I use craigslist a lot for my automotive sites. You just have to be carefull that your ads are trying to sell a car not your own website. You can normally ad a link to your site without getting it flaged. I do about 10-20 ads a week.

Works well when you have an actual product to sell, but not for promoting a website by itself

I loved the sites.

I have tried my hand with some classifieds scripts in past. But they didn't worked good. Can you please let me know what script it is. I will not open any site in your own competition. I just wanted to know for education purposes about the script so in future it can be useful.

I was reffering to using existing classifieds to promote my site, like craigs list. However I also use my own classifieds to promote my used cars dealer website, sort of like a loss leader, I allow people in th enorthern california area to list thier vehicles for free but the have to go through my main site to do it, Give me a ton o repeat visitors.

this uses e-classifieds, which works pretty well.

A friend of a friend of mine said that she tried to put her website up in the local classifieds a little while ago. She said she didn't have such a good experience with it, but it was mostly due to the man she talked to about putting it up in the paper.

Our local ads are also not showing any great results. I live in a town with a population of more then 100,00,000

But out of them maybe 1000 know what the domain name is. And maybe 10 people know that they can also be bought and resold for making profits.

So putting up an ad for the domain forums is more headache compared to the advertising it might create.

They would also need to be taught how to Make a new reply and how to make a new thread and in which section.

Exactly, Nameslot. I could not imagine that a classified ad would have any major effect on the traffic for a website.

It may be better to advertise in a magazine or an online listing - but, aside from free listings, those can get expensive.

yea..thats true....
the number of people who access internet here in India is way less....
So, advertising on anything other than the internet is a waste!!
