Hello all,
I would like to know your view on Social bookmarking benefits in SEO. Here i have share my views for social bookmarking..

Social bookmarking and social networking sites will not help much in gaining search ranking for natural search engine result. i observe that social media optimization will only help us to increase traffic for our website.

I would like to hear from other experience SEO members here.

I would agree with the small experience I have had. It can increase traffic a little, but if the bookmarks come from the site owner or a promoter, then there may not be anything on the site that will keep people interested and the traffic drops...

Some bookmarking sites are only allowing bookmarks visible to the user itself. So that is non crawlable content. So no SEO benefit from there.

Some does have crawlable parts but then too much spammy sites also get in there.

Next the listing of yours just gets dumped under millions of new listings on it. So those inner most pages have nothing to give to your pages.

Yes but some bookmarking sites does have good points too. So it would depend on which you submit ;)

Traffic is there but from SEO perspective I think some points needs to be checked.

With regard to creating a high-quality search engine, a social bookmarking system has several advantages over traditional automated resource location and classification software, such as search engine spiders. All tag-based classification of Internet resources (such as web sites) is done by human beings, who understand the content of the resource, as opposed to software, which algorithmically attempts to determine the meaning of a resource. Also, people can find and bookmark web pages that have not yet been noticed or indexed by web spiders. Additionally, a social bookmarking system can rank a resource based on how many times it has been bookmarked by users, which may be a more useful metric for end users than systems that rank resources based on the number of external links pointing to it.

For users, social bookmarking can be useful as a way to access a consolidated set of bookmarks from various computers, organize large numbers of bookmarks, and share bookmarks with contacts. Libraries have found social bookmarking to be useful as an easy way to provide lists of informative links to patrons.

The problem I see with bookmarking is that anyone can do it, and they are, flooding the bookmarking sites with spam, or if not spam, things that are done for reasons of self-promotion and not honest sharing or resources that are good.

Social bookmarking sites are for promoting a website and giving a website exposure. If you get enough traffic, your site's PR will greatly improve. As for building backlinks, you can always use forums for building quality backlinks.
