Hey I'm probably not the guy to give you definitive opinion on this only started out in 'brandables' sector couple months ago!

Been domainer for couple years now

Brandables can be real words (keywords), but commonly made up names that have nice sound to it, easy to pronounce, remember, and many other defying factors..

Yahoo, Google and similar would be great example, as you got some unique name to brand and as long as you claim trademark for it others can't really use domains such us: newgoogle, betergoogle or simillar. You would be entitled to take them to court and demand to drop or give domain to you..
