Do you think that the paid directories are better to generate traffic ?

I have some questions for all the website owners who have taken services from online directories. I have plans to buy this kind of service as I have seen that the paid directories give much better results than the non-paid ones. If you take a paid directory service and enlist your website there you are bound to get a good traffic to your website.But as the effectiveness of the directories became evident the directory owners have started to charge too much . Can anyone there suggest me of a directory which will serve my purpose to generate high traffic to my website but at the same time is less expensive?

Paid directory is also better than non-paid directory because of paid directory index you link on the sport but non-paid directory's status be pending it's depend on site owner if he approved you submission then link be index otherwise no guaranty.
