HI..
Does my-domain.com have any advantage over mydomain.com in a search engine. My guess is no but my question is because my competitor has a hyphen and mine wouldn't. Also I am stuck with .net but you can't win them all huh.

So, i can give the best solution for that... Just get the best hosting services for that process is good to lead that problem... About the domain name and hosting services.. Then i got my domain name as an international one with free hosting services from this site.

The only time the hyphen has value is if you can't get the domain name that you are chasing. In your example

mydomain.com is a little better SE wise, but if you can't get that then
my-domain.com is the 2nd best option.

Overall the difference is miniscule

I think mydomain.com is better then my-domain Becouse this dash which (-) makes problem for the user to enter so I hope you will understand.

I've used hyphens, and have never had any problems with them.

I guess that it depends on what you want to do with them.

I registered freelance-articles.com in 2007, and within three weeks it was on the front page of google for those key words, and has been there since... even though it is badly in need of a rebuild.

If you're aiming to flip the domain of course, the value of the domain is determined by the market.

I guess the question you'd have to ask your self in that case is, would you buy it to use yourself?

If you use a hyphen you will be disadvantaged. Never use it as surfers are likely to forget it. It has no any effect on the search engine. A hyphen is one characteristic of a poor quality domain name…

Yes I know all that, but my hyphenated domains are still rating on the front page of google... (one at #3 - above the unhyphenated version) funny that! ;)

That is why i told you that it has no any effect to the search engine..any way I have never heard of that.... Experience teaches one a lot.

I don't think its a matter . but on advice , avoid that hyphen

If you use the hyphen will be disadvantaged. Never forget that you can use it as a possible surfers. The search engine does not have any effect. Dash, poor quality is a feature of the domain name.

there may not be much difference from a seo point of view but if you manage to avoid hyphens, underscores and numbers, it makes it easier for visitors to remember

Hyphenated domains are bad, because you can not easily pronounce them to your friends, especially on phone dialogue and on Radio. However, if you must use one, you have to beware of TM. Cheers.

Hi. I don't think there can be a problem with that. As long as you do proper SEO, Google will love you and will surely rank any domain you have =)
