How exactly does a "domain backorder" work? I see some companies charge $60 to secure a name when it gets deleted. What if the domain is in demand? Would there be an auction held somewhere for that domain?

Any domain backorder companies recommended? I see some charge upfront and some only charge when they secure a name?

Some are getting names really. while others suc*s

the thing is that yeah if the domain is in demand it gets to the aftermarket and there it gets in auction.

If the name does not have more then one party interested then it goes to him.

Sites which give this service for free. Just monitor the domain name for you and picks it up. But you have to supply a credit card number for that before they catch your domains.

So which are the good companies for getting names?

If a name is in demand, where is it auctioned at?

There is POOL.com - SNAPNAMES.com
don't waste your time with ExpireFish

These drop sharks require registration, CC on file and a minimum $60 bid per domain. They scoop up the domains that have been backordered (they are not always sucesssfull picking up the domains) in the case of two or more folks backordering the same domain a short 3-day auction happens

And I think may be the auction would go higer if the domain name we are talking about is a 3 character and a .com domain.

Pool.com, Snapnames.com, Enom.com and Godaddy.com are the major domain name backorder companies.

Yeah nowadays expirefish is not getting any attention. may be they have expired themselves form the market.

Why would anyone want to put a backorder on someone else's domain name I do not understand that idea? I mean, when I get a domain either I buy a site from a friend or ebay, with the domain name. OR, we come up with the domain name ourselves and get it for like around $9.00.

It is just my opinion that if someone has a domain that is doing well, they will keep renewing it and keep having it as a site. If it is not doing well, then they may let it expire. So what good is a backorder and paying an amount for a domain, say if someone that owns the domain keeps renewing it and you never get to buy it anyways?

I personally tried backorders from Godaddy, Snapnames and Pool. None worked for me :( I've never being successful in picking up a backordered name. With Pool I could do it, but since you are going to bid after the pick up, and I was not going to pay $20000 for that name, I had to resign!
