Domain TLD Query

I'm genuinely curious to know, if creating a domain restricted to your country(for instances .co.uk) makes any difference to one that ends in .com, org, or .net?

If you want a forum to reach everybody in the world, would it still have the same effect if it ends in .co.uk or would it be more benefical if it ended in .com/net/org?

Or it doesn't really make a difference? What's your experience?

i think .com is the best if you want international traffic. plus i think even if you live in UK you can not be limited to only register co.uk but you can register the .com from anywhere so why not to register a .com instead of co.uk

The .co.uk domains can be opened from anywhere in the world. same thing is for all the tld's so i think this will not be a problem. One question though why you are choosing the .co.uk domain in the first place.

In a technical sense, .co.uk and .com are mostly the same. It will not affect users in any part of the world any differently because you chose a country extension rather than a commercial extension.

The difference between .co.uk and .com is that .co.uk is an entirely different extension and may have more available names than .com.

Domaingirl is right.  It would be a lot better for your website and your traffic to register a .com rather than the .co.uk if the .com is available.

But, I was thinking that if there is a popular .com website and the .co.uk is still available, you may get some traffic off of that if you do domain parking... something to think about.

I was thinking that you may want to consider purchasing a .co.uk domain if your target demographic is catered towards citizens of the United Kingdom; however, like DomainGod mentioned, .com would be much better if the target demographic is worldwide and international.

Even the resale value of the site or the domain name itself would be a lot higher if it is .com :grin:

Anna, can we know what theme the site is. Or can we know what domain name it is. If you don't mind. Also please only let us know if it is registered. Because if you post your available domain names here and someone grabs it then it will be a loss for you.
