Expired domains with pagerank.

If I grab an expired domain name from aftermarket which has backlinks and Pagerank, I put up a website on it. So will I lose the pagerank? I have heard that google takes the pagerank away as they notice the changes. Is it true?

If there are some tips on preserving the PR of an expired domain name then please share it here. Thanks.
