Geography is important for backlinking?

Hello,

I have been doing backlinking for some of my websites but i would like to know that does website's language which i put my site url is important? Lets say i have german website and target visitors are from germany and I'm listing my site into directories from US, UK or italy high ranked pages and same content. How would it effect ?

i think geography has a role in linking in regard to search engine results bcz i used a some SEO software sometime ago and it was showing diffreent result for the different google domains
