Get a free domain name

I checked out FREEDOMAINSITE.COM.

It seems that you have to sign up for some kind of service with a credit card and cancel before you are charged. Has anyone gotten the domain for free from them? I am a little weary of giving credit card information, address information, and contact information on the basis of a cancellation - what if you are charged, anyway?

If it seems to be too good to be true.... then it may not be, sort of.

The first one says

The second one is sort of a scam. You sign up and the person gets some kind of affiliate commission for you to sign up. Then you cancel and they still get paid.

There is almost always some "trick" involved. If you get an offer that is directly from a company then I would be careful and consider it, but in general I think you are asking for trouble with offers like this.

One of the reseller accounts I opened gave me a free domain. Later it took me about 3 weeks of phone calls and emails to get the ownership put in my name, since I was not the "owner"....! It was NOT worth the $7 I saved to get it.

I don't think that I would ever go for free web hosting unless it was provided by a company directly or it was from my Internet service provider.

I agree that the free domain registry seems a little on the unattractive side since it only costs a few dollars to register a domain in the first place, so thank you for the heads up on that, nielsencl.

I would never go for a free one. If it is not in our control and if we spend our precious time in cultivating the web traffic and then someday it just vanishes in thin air without our knowledge then it will be the worst day of your life.

Free domains and free hosting :crying: Its better to get one of our own and stay with it. Atleast we have some control over it.

On the contrary if people don't have domains then there are contests like ours and there are members like ours who would not think twice before gifting a domain name to someone for some work getting done.

It doesn't takes much to do some basic work for someone and ask for an unwanted domain name if he is not going to use it or if he is going to just let it expire. Most domains might be junk but even then if proper time and efforts are put behind it. It will shine.

These domains are for that person who starts new web mastering and new in internet field. So they can start there business with these free domains and free hosting.

Good jayesh I am finding this kind of free domains. This is the good way to get free domain name and start web mastering. Thanks for your types.

Are people really interested in getting free domains?

If so, why and what would you do with it?

If you could get a lot of free domains what would you do with them?

Would it be ok to get an existing domain, or would you want to choose a new one?

Would .info domains be ok?

Would you be will to link to the provider or run some ads on your site?

Would you use paid or free hosting with your free domain?

Good questions nielsencl.

Let me also add one of mine.

What would you do if after doing some marketing and wasting your precious time the domain owner company decides to take back that domain and just park it to pump the traffic on parking pages?

hmm,

give me those Free names.. i would convert them to money making ones :D hehehe....... (joking) :angry-tongue:

I would never be intrested in getting free names. And if some one is really giving still i wont take them...

Money converted with Free things always wind away Freely ;)

And if you have a free domain it would surely go in vain.. but if you have bought it you will give ur 200% to make something of your investment :D

Good luck. Nothing in life is Free. You have to pay for it now or later :D

You guys don't know but I have no credit card so how can I register the domain name from the registrar? I need free domain because of I have one project. Domain should be .info, .com, .us, .uk, .net I don't care. I need domain only for 5 or 6 months.

Good point, but what I was wondering is if there could really be a business in providing free domain names?

Aside from buying the domains and giving them away in return for a link or something else, there are some sources of cheap used domains like Sohil has that could be "recycled". Perhaps those that have domains and want to dump them would be willing to give them away in return for the person linking to one of their other parked domains?

Sure, the domain you gave away may not ever get PR, but if you talk with the person first you could find out if they were serious or not and even help them to have a nice little site. I was thinking that after about 6 months you would transfer ownership to the person so that they really do own it, with the understanding that they contiune to link to you for at least another 6 months.

Good questions, nielsencl.

I think that the appeal of a free domain name is universal. Obviously, there are a lot of people that can't or don't want to have to pay for registry and an offer like this would appeal to them.

I would prefer to have a close associate or a friend pay for a domain name since the prices are very small. If someone is doing well, I am sure that they can afford to register a domain on your behalf as a gift or bestowment and, this way, the domain would be in your name in the registry and you would not have to fear the retribution of a company which gave it to you for free.

I found the offer tempting for a little while and considered the benefits and consequences, and decided not to give the offer my contact information or address; I think that it would be better for me to simply pay the five to ten dollars myself.
