Getting Rid of the Splash Page

I wish to have a discussion about Splash pages. One of my clients is using Splash pages. My client thinks that SEO efforts will be helped using the splash page. But I am of the opinion that it can have terrible consequences as it is merely a form of cloaking. In addition, people should not practice cloaking as it is unethical as well as illegal. I don’t want my client’s site to be either banned or be penalized. This is why I need some insight on the matter. How do I convince my client that she needs to get rid of the splash page as soon as possible?
