Don't confuse the tags -
TITLE tag - HUGELY important. LESS THAN 80 characters indexed, LESS THAN 66 visible on Googel. HUGE HUGE HUGE for every page, and the HOME PAGE title tag is the No. 1 most important tag for any website!
META DESCRIPTION tag = your SUGGESTION to Google as to what you'd like the page to be summarized. SHOULD include the keywords and SHOULD be pithy, exciting. Its mission: GET THE CLICK.
META KEYWORDS tag. IGNORED. Use as 'note to self' - what is this page targeting?
They are all three different and do different things.
Question - what does INDEXED mean. Google is a huge database. It's not the actual web... so you have to get INTO the Google Database. That's what INDEXED means. The best website in the world is worth NOTHING if Google doesn't index the content. Then, on a tag like the TITLE tag, only the first 80 characters or so are INDEXED. Things after that 80 character line are IGNORED. (* we don't know exactly where they stop *).
