How to Become an ICANN-Accredited Registrar?

I realize that the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is responsible for domain registry and extensions and is one of the backbones of the Internet, but I found their entire documentation on Accredited Registrars a little ridiculous, namely:

The fees to become an accredited registrar are enormous, guys.

If I recall correctly, there are a lot more fees to pay to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers:

- US$2,500 non-refundable application fee, to be submitted with application.
- US$4,000 yearly accreditation fee.
- Variable fee paid once you begin registering domain names. This fee represents a portion of ICANN's operating costs.
- Transaction-based gTLD fee. This fee is a flat fee charged for each new registration, renewal or transfer. This fee can be billed by the registrar separately on its invoice to the registrant.

Basically, you have to be very successful and have a working capital of $70,000 before they will even consider you.  Is anyone here planning on becoming accredited?  Is it worth it?

Right. They need capital just for security. I did managed to accumulate the things. But till then my sites were performing well so I don't get time or now you can say I am out of enthusiasm for becoming an ICANN accredited registrar.

I have some bigger and different plans going on right now. I am not getting enough kicks out of successfully completing small to medium sized projects. I am getting more and more greedy to satisfy my programming kicks which I used to get when I was completing my projects in past.

The new projects are going to take a lot of finance and lot of efforts. Plus it is a huge gamble but I am confident enough that it will be a success.

What are some of the credible, practical benefits to becoming an accredited registrar with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers?

They are asking for a lot of money and they have very high standards, but, from what I'm researching, it doesn't seem like it is worth it...
