How to optimize images for SEO

I am in a lot of trouble.

I am trying to optimize some images for seo for one client and the results are not showing at all.

I have tried using the alt tags and naming things and all.

If someone has some input on this one then please post it here.

Do you still need help?

I only sometimes worry about images and just add a good ALT tag.

If you want to fuss over them, I would use 1-3 keywords separated in the file name, and something like it in the ALT tag, but not the exact same thing.

You could also make the images link to something on the site that makes sense, like a page with information on the topic of the image, or a text anchor.
