Do you make sitemaps and submit it to search engines? I have made sitemaps and some were really bulky but it did helped to get 3000 pages crawled in one year. which maybe is good or maybe not. On the other hand one new site similar to the one before got 12000 pages indexed with sitemap.

I have never made a sitemap manually.

I have been working on and moderating a gaming site for over five years. Our forums run on vBulletin and a recent plugin installed is called vbSEO - it says that it automatically generates a sitemap for Google and Yahoo - so that is my only experience with submitting sitemaps to search engines.

It may take a long time before the results of the generated sitemaps show up, though.

Oh, you've been moderating a game site? Hey, maybe I'll check it out. What is the URL, Roogle?

I did had to generate sitemaps in past from the sitemap generating programs but then I checked what they were outputting and then soon I coded my own script which directly outputs the same format URL lists and sitemaps for the site  Without even crawling the site.

The site is available to browse from the homepage link in my profile. It caters towards the Final Fantasy series of games.

Nameslot, that sitemap generator sounds very useful. Do you sell it, by any chance?

Friend it cannot be sold as it is a custom script for every new script that it generates the sitemap for. EX: If I want to generate the sitemap for Nameslot.com then I did checked that it generated the Map for categories and the threads with SEO friendly URL's in it. So my script now takes the data from the database and just outputs the XML file based on the threads and their URL's along with the category and forum pages.

Oh, I understand what you mean. It is a custom script that generates a sitemap and will only work for that website.

Here is a useful article about sitemaps.

I would probably use Google Sitemaps to create my sitemaps, as I do not know any programming languages and I could not create a script to do it. Since the Google Sitemaps protocol allows for you to publish the sitemap on the three major search engines, it would be doubly useful. I'd just hope it wouldn't take too long. I may download the tools and check out the program to become acquainted with it.
