Oftentimes, Valentine’s Day gets a bad rep among college girls – especially single girls. We try to pretend the holiday doesn’t exist, wear too much black, and overdose on chocolate truffles. We spend the day holed up in our dorm rooms watching Ashton Kutcher and Jennifer Garner get together in Valentine’s Day while sympathizing with Jessica Biel. Yes, it’s easy to forget that Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romantic love – it’s about all kinds of love, even love among friends.
So this Valentine’s Day, take a cue from Carrie and Miranda and instead of ignoring the holiday, embrace it. Spend the day celebrating with those who know you best, you BFFs, whether you decide the stay in or go out. Here are some ideas to help!
Going Out…

Here at College Fashion, we believe you don’t need a reason to dress up, but Valentine’s Day makes for a fantastic excuse to wear something fabulous. Want a reason to splurge on that dress you’ve been eying for weeks now? Want to try out that new restaurant? Don’t wait for a date! Grab your girls and go on out! Get dinner, have drinks, maybe even do some dancing. Don’t sit home moping about how you don’t have a guy to take you out, take yourself out!
So gather with all your gals to try on clothes, do each other’s hair and makeup, and paint the town (and your lips) red. And while you’re out, embrace the Valentine’s Day mania. Because it will be there. Everywhere. Chocolate hearts. Red confetti. Pink taffeta. So embrace the love, and share it with your girlfriends. Toast to being single and fabulous!

Not up for a night out on the town? Perfectly understandable, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay in alone. Instead, have a girls’ night in, slumber party style! Wear cute pajamas, rent chick flicks, and eat lots and lots of cookie dough.
First of all, get yourself some cute loungewear to relax in. Then, order in some food from your favorite restaurant, whether it be Thai food or pizza. Rent lots and lots of movies. And make them themed, whether that theme is Nicholas Sparks novels (The Notebook, The Last Song, Dear John, and A Walk to Remember) or Back to the ’90s (She’s All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, Spice World, Clueless, Titanic). And don’t forget those desserts – preferably ones you can bake yourself. Brownies? Chocolate chip cookies? Maybe some red velvet cupcakes? You’ll enjoy making them just as much as you enjoy eating them.
But No Matter What You Do…

Make sure you indulge in some girl talk. As college girls, we all live busy lives – so busy, in fact, that we sometimes forget to take some time out and catch up with our girlfriends, the ones who are there for us in between all of that craziness. So whether you’re playing truth or dare or sharing some honest truths in a heart-to-heart, take some time to check in with your girls. After all, they’re the real loves of your lives, at least according to Carrie Bradshaw.
