What "Bump" mean in forum.

Bump means Bring Up My Post. As it clearly seen that it about bringing up any old post.
But I have one question concern to this.

Is it proves beneficial in forums? or for SEO?

Any one please share your expert knowledge concern to this so that we get to understand it more clearly.
