Canonicalization is nothing but normalization of websites, if you type in bbc.co.uk in address bar, after BBC gets loaded, the URL will be http://www.bbc.co.uk. If you try to browse to microsoft.com you will get an entirely different URL's.

Definitely I am agree with your saying that it is nothing but the normalization of website. It is the procedure of picking the choosing the same URL in different ways. Google will definitely index them.

When we utilize canonical Meta tags throughout on page optimization of website it is called Canonicalization of website. In other words we can say using of canonical Meta tags called Canonicalization of website.

Canonicalization refers to individual web pages that can be loaded from multiple URLs. This is a problem because when multiple pages have the same content but different URLs, links that are intended to go to the same page get split up among multiple URLs. This means that the popularity of the pages gets split up.
