By the time you have bought a book it is out of date.

Better to learn online from examples like:
PHP: A simple tutorial - Manual
and
FREE example PHP code and online MySQL database - example username password protected site

I got a free ebook of PHP back in 2004 and I read it and Bang I was already coding my first website.

After that I have never read anything on PHP/MySQL all I need to do is look for some examples sometimes on php.net

Online tutorials are probably the best, but if you are like me, you hate sitting at a computer for hours reading a book on PHP. (Unless you have a laptop of course).

The book I learned from and consider to be the best are the Sam's Teach Yourself books. I got Sam's Teach Yourself PHP, mySQL, and Apache in 24 hours. Of course it took longer than 24 hours but if you actually did read constantly for 24 hours and had a high level reading it would be possible.

Sincerely,
-Marcus

Marcus. We both have same choice :grinning-wink:

I also love that SAMS series of almost all subjects that I want to learn.

I would love to get a few more but I just don't have the money, the only reason I have the few I have is because it was used. Might browse amazon if I get some spare money though.

2 excellent books, been recommended.

PHP and MYSQL for dummies, version 2
and
sams teach yourself php in 24 hours
