Would You Wear… a Destroyed Sweater?

From the moment Alexander Wang first sent a holey sweaterdress down the runway, the destroyed sweater trend immediately sprung to mass popularity. Following Wang’s lead, other edgy designers shortly produced their own versions: Rodarte, Maison Martin Margiela, and Comme de Garcons each created destroyed sweaters worth coveting.

Here in Los Angeles, open-stitch and holey sweaters have not only overtaken campus but the streets as well. Although this look is not the most practical (it certainly won’t keep you warm in the winter months!) it is incredibly trendy.

Although I think this trend can be cute if worn right, if this look stays hip for much longer, I will be surprised. Practicality is lacking here, and, as the destroyed sweater approaches mainstream saturation, fashion insiders will begin to lose interest. So, in my opinion, it’s not a trend worth spending major money on unless the grunge look fits your style and will for years to come.
In case you’re looking for some budget-friendly destroyed sweaters…
